Bikes on CityCats: can you take a bicycle or scooter on a Brisbane ferry?
Can you take a bike on a Brisbane CityCat? Yes, free, if there's space and the Master agrees. What else you can bring.
In this story
Short answer: yes. The council says bikes, scooters and e-mobility devices travel free on all CityCats and ferries, as long as there's enough space.
The rule
Bikes, scooters and e-mobility devices are allowed if there is enough space, at the Master's discretion. The Master is the vessel's captain.
What that means in practice
Because it depends on space and the Master's call, boarding with a bike isn't guaranteed. That is an inference from the rule, not extra council guidance. You may have to wait for the next service when the boat is busy.
Do I pay for the bike?
No. The council lists bikes as free. You still need your own ticket (see how to pay for a CityCat).
Other things you can bring
- Prams: the council says the fleet has wheelchair and pram access.
- Wheelchairs and mobility scooters: CityCats have designated areas (see CityCat accessibility).
- Dogs: off-peak only (see dogs on CityCats).
The council pages I read don't set luggage limits. Check Translink's conditions of travel for those.
Tips
- Be ready to follow crew directions on where to stand or stow the bike.
